Our Mission

Eight by Eight was founded with the goal of making a positive impact on lives through chess. We strive to help people improve their chess game in a fulfilling way. We know what it takes to get better at chess, and our team of professional chess teachers tailor lesson content and delivery around our students.

Our Story

Eight by Eight was founded in 2017 by Nitai Leve with the goal of helping kids improve their lives through learning competitive chess. Having grown up as a top scholastic chess player in New York City, worked in analytical fields during and directly after undergraduate school, and studied education in graduate school while already teaching chess professionally, Nitai brings a unique combination of chess skill and expertise in education and learning.

Nitai also became a certified Steps Trainer in 2020 and Eight By Eight utilizes the Step Method to improve the skills of our students. Since its inception, Eight By Eight has taught chess and built the confidence, problem solving skills and work ethic of over 1000 students. Eight by Eight has also contributed to some impressive student accomplishments, including coaching a national champion winning team and individual players with national and international accolades.
